A Covey of Counselors Descends on Campus

cc_0916_audience.jpgThe Davidson College of Engineering, along with the Lucas College of Business and the College of Science, recently hosted the 2016 Bay Area Regional Counselor Conference in the Student Union.

After a light breakfast and a welcome, counselors from regional high schools and community colleges listened to presentations from each SJSU college, and then learned more about how to prepare their students for admissions and for success in their college careers.

Jinny Rhee, College of Engineering Associate Dean, described our accreditation and accolades, including the recent 3rd place* ranking in U.S. News and World Report. She also spoke about how trends in the student body are shifting to a more humanitarian focus. “We survey incoming freshman students and ask them why they chose engineering as their focus,” said Rhee. “The answer used to be: to get a good job. But more and more, the students answer: to help people. So we have programs in place to answer that need, such as our Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS).”

Rhee also reminded the attendees to save the date (November 5) for our Fall Preview Day. This public event is an open house in the College of Engineering showcasing our dynamic students and innovative research.
