Become a Fall 2017 Davidson Student Scholar

A Letter to College of Engineering Students from Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Essam Marouf:

Dear College of Engineering Students,
Are you looking for an opportunity to conduct original, innovative, and challenging research before you graduate?

The Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering invites all undergraduate and graduate engineering students to work closely with an engineering faculty mentor/advisor to develop and submit competitive research proposals in areas of their mutual research interest.  Only individual proposals are solicited at this time (no team proposals).

Please use this Template to generate your proposal.

All submitted proposals will be evaluated competitively based on the scope and originality of the proposed research, and on the quality and completeness of the information provided in each section of the body of the proposal. Up to 30 proposals will be selected to consider for potential monetary awards, to be granted after successful completion of the proposed research. Selected students will be identified as Fall 2017 Davidson Student Scholars.

The proposed research should be completed either in one semester (Fall 2017) or in one academic year (Fall 2017 and Spring 2018).

The award amount is one of the following:

  • $1,000 (one semester project),
  • $2,000 (an academic year project), or
  • $3,000 (an academic year M.S. thesis).
  • Up to $300 in implementation support will be reimbursed.
  • Additional awards will be granted for publishing the research results in credible Journals or conferences.
  • All awards are granted after completion of the proposed research. Please see Awards for more details.

You may find it useful to read the Example Guidelines for writing student research proposals. More examples can be found by searching online.

Your proposal must be approved by your faculty advisor before submission.  It should then be submitted using the link below as a single pdf file (3 pages proposal and 1 page cover — see the template) by noon on Friday 9/8/2017. Please use LastName_FirstName_Fall2017_Scholar.pdf as the name of your submitted pdf file.

Please get in touch with the faculty you prefer to work with as soon as you can to ensure completing and submitting a proposal by the deadline.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
