Community for Engineering Learning and Living (CELL)

CELL is a residential first-year experience program that makes building a support network easier for new students. Housed in Joe West Hall, CELL participants:

  • live with other first-year College of Engineering students.
  • meet regularly with peer mentors and connect with other College of Engineering student leaders.
  • interact with College of Engineering faculty and staff members.
  • take advantage of academic and social programming to help their transition to SJSU and succeed in the College of Engineering.

Be an incoming first-year student admitted into a College of Engineering major for the Fall 2017 semester.  Note: The CELL floor has a limited capacity, so all incoming first-year college of engineering students are not able to be housed on the CELL floor. Final placement in CELL occurs as part of the University Housing Services application and room assignment process.

Application Process

The application for CELL happens as part of the application for Housing through University Housing Services. As part of the Housing Application, students will indicate a desire to be assigned to a Living Learning Community (with CELL as your first preference) and then also be sure Joe West Hall Suites is your first Building Preference.  Be sure and fully complete the application process through Housing.  You are encouraged to complete the application as early as possible.  Direct any questions about the Housing Application directly to University Housing Services.
